county in the low 40s. it's below freezing in the mountains of western maryland and west virginia, near 30 degrees there. near 40 now on the eastern shore. mid-40s through southern virginia. and over the last 12 hours we've had the afternoon clouds break up and overnight we cleared out and starting off clear and chilly this morning. later on today, blustery northwest winds. it's going to be cool with lots of sunshine, though, highs reaching the low to mid-60s. and then another chilly night tonight. back down to near 40 degrees by dawn tomorrow. but with bright april sun and a diminishing wind on thursday we should make it to near 70. then feeling like summertime on friday and saturday, both days highs climbing into the low 80s, morning lows near 50 on friday, near 60 on saturday. we'll take a look at sunday and next week coming up this half hour. how's traffic? >> as we get under way, pretty quiet. had a bunch of road work, now looks like we're doing well on the beltway near arlington boulevard and in the overnight hours authorities were detouring traffic off the inner loop to i-66 beca

asking for your help to find the suspect. he said to be driving a 1999 silver acura with virginia tags, xks-1522. >>> classes will resume at eastern high school in the district after a fire. about 100 firefighters battled that blaze in the 1700 block of east capital street northeast sunday afternoon. the fire destroyed a rubberized roofing material that crews were laying down. investigators say the fire started on the roof of one of those buildings that was undergoing renovation. it appears to be accidental. investigators are trying to find out what sparked the fire. a few workers were inside and got out safely. firefighters were called to this restaurant fire in prince george's county. the fire broke out at the mid-atlantic seafood just after 1:30 sun afternoon. fire and smoke were seen coming from the roof when firefighters arrived. the restaurant was evacuated. no injuries reported. the cause of that fire remains under investigation. >>> we're following breaking news from new york city. more than 250 firefighters battle a seven alarm fine a high rise building on manhattan's lower ea

prague later. ed henry, thanks very much. >>> there's fresh heartbreak in west virginia right now where efforts to find four missing miners are suffering a setback. rescue crews were within 500 feet of an airtight emergency chamber where the miners could be waiting for help when they were forced to turn back. cnn's brian todd has been covering this story for us on the ground in west virginia. what's the latest, brian? >> reporter: wolf, no getting around it. as you mentioned, a major setback for the rescue effort today. just a short time ago, rescue teams were pulled out of the upper big branch mine because of dangerous and potentially explosive levels of methane carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas. especially excruciating development because they had gotten so close. the rescuers had gotten into the same general area where they believe the four missing miners are located. you mentioned a moment ago, wolf, they did get within 500 feet of one of those rescue chambers, one of those large boxes that can fit 15 miners in there. they have enough oxygen in there for four days. that's for 15 peop

the heat at the loaded gun rally. this one is on the banks of the potomac in nearby virginia. the protest site near d.c. is the closest you can get to the city and still legally carry a gun. meantime guns are not allowed at the second amendment march within the city limits because of d.c.'s ban on handguns. tracie potts is live at the second amendment march. tracie, tell us what's going on right now. >> reporter: monica, two different events in the d.c. area. the rally over in virginia and this one. i'm going to pan off and show you what's going on here. we're on the national mall near the washington monument. this is a second amendment march. it started as a march. it's more of a rally. we've got several dozen people here, maybe a couple hundred. is an all day event supporting and protecting second amendment gun rights. these are people from all over the country who say this nation needs to make sure that people who live here can responsibly carry guns. now, there are no guns at this rally, because it's in d.c. and d.c. bans firearms. quite frankly, they have been very adamant about the

of the hour, we have another fox news alert for you. they are hoping for the very, very best in west virginia this morning where four miners are still missing. crews are drilling bore holes in the mountain trying to ventilate it. get the noxious gases out, holding out hope that four guys are still alive much at least 25 are dead. steve centanni is live in west virginia with the latest. it's a race against time. i understand they have four days worth of oxygen down there and they want to get the bore holes in within the next day. >> that's right. we expect to see some progress on that today. they're drilling the bore holes in a very rough terrain on the side of a mountain really where they had to go in with bulldozers and make a road to make a flat -- platform where they could put the drill rig and drop it down 1100 feet into solid earth way deep into the mine where the miners are trapped. now, we don't know if any of those four unaccounted for are still alive. that's the big question mark. that's where they're dropping the ventilation shafts to clear the air so the crews can go in there. we
